Old Sears building renovations see a delay in construction due to winter weather
JONESBORO, Ark- The old Sears building along East Highland Drive will soon be home to Gamble Home Furnishing and Gearhead Outfitters.
But you will have to wait a few more months thanks to winter weather earlier this year.
“We did run into a little snag whenever the ice storm, tornados, and all of that hit down in Texas. The spray foam factories got hit,” Gamble marketing director Sarah Hunt said. “So, like the spray foam that goes for the insulation, all of it kinda disappeared. So, we hit a little snag on that, had a little bit of a delay.”
The ice storm steam from the winter weather that hit the south, including Jonesboro last, February.
Despite the delay, construction resumed not long after.
Gamble will occupy the eastern portion of the 82,000 square foot facility along with Lay-Z-Boy, Magnolia Soap, and Gearhead.
Approximately 25,000 thousand square feet of additional space on the western portion of the building is currently available for sale or lease.
The layout of the new location will mirror their flagship home in the Farville Curve.
Hunt says they are almost complete with construction inside the building.
“A lot of people have probably seen the paint go up on the outside. We’ve got the inside painted. The floors are getting sanded, the sheet rocks [are] all done. We’re- we’re close. We are so excited we cannot wait to get this place open. We are so, so excited,” says Hunt.
The major renovation will also include a green space, plaza, and food truck area.
The completion date was slated for spring.
However, Hunt says they now expect it to be complete by early fall.
