New Provider for VA clinic in Jonesboro
Veterans residing in Craighead, Poinsett, Mississippi, and other counties can now begin receiving care at the new VA Jonesboro clinic.
A town hall meeting was held today to inform local veterans of the new clinic location and answer any questions they may have when it comes to their medical care.
We’re so excited to open a new clinic in Jonesboro. We have so many veterans that go to the current clinic and we’ve grown to the point where we need this space. We want to provide a patient center care model with the space plan and the staff to support it,” Program Director, Ellie Ramirez said.
The clinic will be approximately 15,000 Sq.ft and is projected to serve 2,300 enrolled veterans within the first year
Veterans who receive care through sterling medical corporation will receive their care through STG International Inc.
This change is in compliance with the government requiring contracts to be recompeted every 5 years.
“We’ve been on the contract to be able to provide services locally and there was a need at the time as the VA grew. As a patient care center model which changed significantly from what it was to what it is,” Ramirez said.
Services will include primary care services, mental health staff, and a variety of telehealth services.
One attendee wanted to make sure veteran officials knew the problem with the phone system.
“Being on the phone for an hour and a half then sometimes hanging up and being on the phone for an hour and a half again,” Veteran wife, Mellie Skaggs said.
Officials plan to make those changes for the new clinic which is expected to open July 1st.
“I liked it. I am interested because my husband wants to go here. After all, he’s 89 years old. He’s getting tired on the trips over to Memphis and so he’s very interested in staying here for treatments,” Skaggs said.
The new clinic will be located at 1843 East Highland drive next to Hobby Lobby and Walmart in Jonesboro. Sterling Medical will continue to see veteran patients until June 30, 2021.
