Mayor Harold Copenhaver hitting the ground running as new Jonesboro Mayor
JONESBORO,AR- Mayor Harold Copenhaver has been sworn in as the new Jonesboro Mayor.
Mayor Copenhaver is planning to focus on all the things citizens brought to his attention as he was running for mayor including the Veterans Village and continue safety by earning trust of the citizens.
“I’m looking forward to in this administration is to adopt new commissions for children’s safety to women’s safety in our community. Different commissions that involve community members that their input is important to us moving the city forwards when it comes to safety,” Jonesboro mayor, Harold Copenhaver said.
Copenhaver is maintaining the order that meetings of city council remain virtual in the coming weeks.
He plans to work from the office while city departments will rotate staff who can work remotely, to prevent the spread of covid-19.
“We’ve been able to rely on NYIT, Dr. Shane Speights, and leaders from both of our hospitals on how we as a community can band together and continue to strengthen through these times,” Copenhaver said.
The mayor says he is pleased the budget for this year was approved early. They are working to advance their technology to provide more transparency to the public.
“We’re going to be looking at our Facebook page we’re going to be making changes there that will allow the community to see what we’re doing, what Mayor Copenhaver is doing, what Mayor Copenhaver’s staff is doing on a daily basis, so the community knows exactly what’s going on,” Copenhaver said.
Although his plans for the city are the same, including homelessness, he is humbled to have the opportunity to serve the citizens of Craighead County.
“I have been in swearing ceremony before when I was a state legislator and again until you sit in the chair that the people put you there in to represent them, it’s a very humbling experience,” Copenhaver said.
All city meeting will be available to watch on Facebook live or Sudden Link channel 24. He asks if anyone has questions about anything to call or send an email.
