"It kind of felt like it was just another day," new Paragould Mayor Josh Agee sworn into office
PARAGOULD,AR- Paragould Mayor Josh Agee has been sworn into office and hit the ground running.
Mayor Agee replaced Mike Gaskill who was in officer for over 20 years. Agee says they have already s began working on improvement plans.
“It’s still surreal the night of the election you get sworn in and it takes a couple of days for it to sink in and then as I was being sworn in, I said I’m going to try and remember this because this is one of those things that I had my kids, my wife, mother and sister and family there and it was just nice to be able to share that with them,” Paragould Mayor, Josh Agee said.
Since the election in November, Agee has spent time with Gaskill which has helped him adjust to the new role.
“So, I got an idea of how he handled the workload and that has really helped me to hit the ground running Monday morning. It’s funny, my wife asked me Monday morning and said,
“How do you feel about going in as your first day,” and it kind of felt like it was just another day because I had the opportunity to shadow Mayor Gaskill and know just exactly what I was going to be walking into,” Agee said.
He had 3 main focal points his campaign ran on, including code enforcement, the Paragould Police Department, and quality of life.
So far, they have already hired a new code enforcement officer to double that department and plan to bring wi-fi to the city parks and put 4 new hires in the budget for the police department, with many more plans to go.
“I wanted to pick up where Mayor Gaskill left off and just continue to move the city forward and the lives of our citizens better each and every day,” Agee said.
Mayor Agee says the city plans on working on new ways to inform people on COVID-19 information as it changes to keep their citizens safe and aware.
