A microbrewery restaurant is coming to Jonesboro

A microbrewery restaurant is coming to Jonesboro.

After a year and a half, owners of Native restaurant will open soon in Jonesboro. They did face some challenges, but they know this will be a great addition to the community.

“We knew there would be some opposition there always is, but there was a lot more in support of us. People called in, people emailed, so that really drowned out the opposition so that was nice to see,” Co-owner Native restaurant, Ellen Hundley said.

This is a microbrewery; full-service restaurant will produce their beer on site.

All 4 owners are natives from Jonesboro. When they moved back, they wanted to bring some of their experiences to town from their previous community.

But some residents in the community were against the restaurant coming and others wanted native to know they were highly supported.

“And I think introducing liquor into that area is absolutely the worst thing you can do as it tries to develop out of what it’s been known for in the past,” resident against restaurant said.

“I am absolutely for this business coming to Jonesboro. I have been a resident of Jonesboro my entire life and in the 25 years that I have lived in this wonderful town, I’ve seen it grow in many ways. One way I would love to see Jonesboro continue to grow is to local more local businesses and that is exactly what this business would be,” resident for restaurant said.

In the end, the council approved their permit. The next step is approval from the state alcoholic beverage control board and at the federal level.

“I think there’s a lot of potential in this area. I think there’s a lot of people that live around here in this area that would greatly enjoy being able to walk, to this location, ride their bike, bring their dogs. Just a great place to hang-out,” Co-owner, Native restaurant, Jackson Spencer said.

Co-owner Jackson Spencer says they are planning to complete everything and open by spring or early summer 2021.
