Harold Copenhaver elected new mayor of Jonesboro
JONESBORO, Ark- Late last night Harold Copenhaver beat out candidates Andy Shatley and Thomas Elwood to be the new mayor-elect of the city of Jonesboro.
Copenhaver, a long time Jonesboro resident says he’s ready to get to work for the citizens of Jonesboro.
“I’m very pleased and honored by the community and Jonesboro,” says the newly elected Mayor Harold Copenhaver. “Now we’re gonna be able to take our ideas and move forward.”
Copenhaver, a former Arkansas State Senator receive 50.3% of the vote, with Andy Shatley receiving 43.2% and Thomas Elwood receiving 6.3% of the vote.
This is the second time Copenhaver and Elwood have run for mayor.
Copenhaver was endorsed by outgoing mayor Harold Perrin who did not seek re-election due a cancer diagnoses.
Copenhaver says he is ready to bring his plans for the city to fruition.
“Matter of fact we already have plans in the works,” says Mayor Copenhaver. “We’re going to improve the quality of life we’re going to improve the safety. There’s a lot of good things that are gonna happen here we’re all coming together and we’re gonna do it together.”
Copenhaver will take over the job as mayor of Jonesboro starting on January 1st.
