Josh Agee elected as new Paragould Mayor
Jonesboro voters elected a new mayor last night and so did the City of Paragould.
After Mayor Mike Gaskill announced he would not run for re-election after serving over 21 years several candidates announced their campaign-- now the new Mayor Josh Agee will take Mayor Gaskill place.
“It’s kind of a surreal feeling. You know it’s something that I’ve actually work toward for the past decade of my life,” Paragould Mayor elect, Josh Agee said.
Every day for the past decade he has thought about how he can helping improve Paragould.
Agee has spent countless hours with Mayor Gaskill on what the job of being mayor is and how to do it effectively.
“He has been a great Mayor. He has been I was telling someone earlier, he is an absolute class act and I have learned so much in those one on one meetings and between now and January 1 that’s what I’m going to do is go in his office and soke up all the knowledge and all the experience that I can,” Agee said.
Agee says he plans to help improve Paragould by making sure the police force is fully staffed, that they have the tools, the training and technology they need to do their jobs and add an additional code enforcement officer.
This was a part of his campaign and he plans to keep his word to all citizens of Paragould.
Although some people didn’t vote for Agee he just want all Paragould citizens to know this,
“I want to be your Mayor. I want to represent them. This is a time for unity. We put a post out earlier that said, “The Mayors race was yesterday and today’s a new day” and everyone in the city of Paragould want the same thing and that is a great city to live, work and play in and that’s our goal,” Agee said.
Agee says he will be at city hall first thing next week, with Mayor Gaskill until January 1, 2021 to understand the full ropes of his new position.
