Inmate visitation will temporarily reopen but with several guidelines in place that could cause extended wait times for some visitors

“By having that visitation closed off for so long we began the talks on attempting or trying to open back up at some point. Now we started talking about this about a month or so ago,” Chief Deputy, Justin Rolland said.

The facility closed their visitation at the beginning of the pandemic.

Before during visitation, they allowed 10-12 people at a time—which places those people in close contact with each other.

Visitation will be monitored weekly on a case by case basis.

“We’re not allowing any close contact on both sides, whether it be inmate to inmate or visitor to visitor. But we’re also won't be in the room but for a very short time. So, we felt like if we do this on a trial basis temporary basis,” Rolland said.

Several guidelines include

Visits are limited to 10 minutes,

One adult and two children are allowed

Mandatory temperature checks and masks must be worn.

Any inmate that is in quarantine will not be allowed to receive visits.

According to the Arkansas Department of Health Craighead County has over 3,000 positive covid-19 and listed as one of the several counties in the red zone, including Greene, Lawrence and Mississippi County.

Rolland says with those numbers on the rise, they want to be cautious with the reopening. They’re being very reserve while doing this and asking the public to be patient during this experience.

“It’s taxing not being able to see a family member and so, we want to try and allow that. It's certainty inconvenient and troublesome for the family member not to be able to see the inmate. So, we want to try our best to attempt to make that happen,” Rolland said.

Visitation will only be for Saturday and Sundays.
