Fox Meadow School for Creative Media switches to remote learning

JONESBORO, Ark- Fox Meadow School of Creative Media students will continue their education remotely for the next week- and- a- half due to a high number of students, faculty, and staff being in quarantine for the Coronavirus.

“What created us to pivot and transition to virtual school is because we have too many teachers out,” says Nettleton School District Superintendent Dr. Karen Curtner. “We’ve got more than a third of our faculty and staff are not able to come to school because they’re quarantine. I think we actually had 10; teachers that were out and three paraprofessionals.”

Curtner says they made the decision yesterday when they realized they did not have enough substitutes.

She says they also have 32 students in quarantine as well.

According to Curtner there is no correlation between the cases for those in quarantine as they are across all grade levels.

Curtner says they are following CDC guidelines.

The district will use this week to conduct deep cleans of the school.

“We’re going to utilize that time for our custodial staff and do extra sanitation and cleaning of countertops, desks,” she says. “Things that are touched all the time, doorknobs, things like that.”

Curtner says the office is still open and students who have physical, mental, occupational, or speech therapy services can still attend those appointments.

The school plans to be remote until next Thursday, October 22nd.

Curtner says they chose that date because most of the staff will be in quarantine until the day before.

She says they meet again to discuss if virtual learning will continue.

“We are still in contact with everybody, all those teachers and everybody,” said Curtner.

“We will know before we go back to school where everybody stands and if we have anybody else that turns up sick or been quarantine.

”The district is still giving out student breakfast and lunches.

Pick up for this week was this afternoon but, they will have another distribution next Monday from 9:00- 10:30 am at the Nettleton Student Support Services building.
