CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, Ark- A group of deserving single parents across northeast arkansas were awarded for their hard work.

The Northeast Arkansas chapter of the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship fund honored 110 single parent students this semester.

The scholarships went to multiple Black River Tech students, A-State and Arkansas Northeast College students, with 57% of the students being nursing majors.

In total over 85,000 was distributed to students for the spring semester.

Program Manager Wendy Stotts says students also received something else this semester due to COVID-19.

“Provide laptops to a few students who wouldn’t be able to continue in their classes online without a laptop and then we were also able to send each of those 110 students an additional check for $350 of emergency funds,” says Program Manager Wendy Stotts. “We were trying to support them right away.”

Stotts says scholarship applications for those taking summer classes is still available, with the deadline being July 1st.
