A monster truck of a show makes its way to First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro Saturday. Traxxas owner and monster truck driver Jeff murphy is in his ninth year of popping wheelies and performing other tricks.
“This is a 1700 horse motor on 66’s with 32-inches of travel, so it’s a big difference from your regular truck up and down the road,” says Murphy.
The stage is a concrete floor instead of dirt. But Murphy assures it packs in just as much excitement for stunts.
“It’s a little more intense because trucks slip and slide and go upside down, a lot faster than we do on dirt. So the fans should have a good time here.”
The tour features a two-hour truck show, and special attractions. With the family-four pack, fans have access to the pit party, giving plenty of opportunity to get up close and personal with the monster trucks, and drivers.
First National Bank Arena Marketing Director Morgan Rhodes says tickets are selling fast, which is a big gain for the arena, and community at large.
“By having an event like this, it brings people in, not just from Jonesboro, but from surrounding areas, like Paragould and Trumann,” says Rhodes. “We are able to bring in revenue, and support restaurants. And hotels, and local businesses around here.”
Monster truck touring is a job murphy says he wouldn’t trade. Even after rolling over nine times and catching on fire.
“It’s a love of the sport, and of the trucks. I love the kids…and i love to hear the people cheering.”
A big walk-up crowd is expected Saturday afternoon. The takeaway is show up early.
Shows take place at 1:30pm. And at 7:30pm. Tickets for the Traxxas Monster Truck Tour are available at tickets dot a state dot e-d-u. You can also get them through the central box office, by calling 870-972-2781.
