The Blue Umbrella is a gift shop that features handmade gifts and items created by Arkansans with developmental and intellectual disabilities served by the Division of Developmental Disabilities Services (DDS) within the Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS). The store is located in the main lobby of the DHS building in downtown Little Rock and will open its doors to the public beginning this Thursday. This unique shop supports inclusion for all and will provide supported employment opportunities for clients working across the state.
The shop’s inventory is stocked with one-of-a-kind creations from artisans who have developmental disabilities. The store will also offer job opportunities for DDS clients through store staffing positions. Profits from items sold at the store go directly to the people who made them and staff who run the store.
The store will be open weekdays starting February 7, 2019, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. inside the DHS Central Offices in downtown Little Rock at 700 S. Main Street. The store will accept cash, checks, and credit cards.
Blue Umbrella’s inventory includes custom-made rugs, magnets, jewelry, birdhouses, wreaths, paintings and sculptures, candles, soaps, greeting cards, and more.
