Move it, Move it, Move it, Things are on the Move at the Library!

The building housing the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library at 315 West Oak Avenue has been in place since 1964. In more than fifty years, many changes have been made – including technology, furniture and even expansions. Now, it’s time for another facelift! The library’s Oak Avenue entrance is currently closed due to work being done inside the building. Visitors will notice that shelving has been moved as well as the DVD collection and the entire teen collection to make way for new flooring that will be installed in the coming days. “We are updating the library with new flooring, some new DVD shelving, some new desks and chairs, and most importantly a new service desk,” said CCJPL Director David Eckert.

Once the work is completed on the Oak Avenue side of the building, new flooring will be added to parts of the Cherry Street side of the building. The Oak Avenue side of the building will open once the work is completed and the Cherry Street side will be temporarily closed. This is all underway to provide the best service to those who visit the library. “We are always striving to improve customer service. We hope to do this with a combination of self-checkout stations and consolidating most of our other services into one main location. We have also created a new business center to better serve our computer users. Installing a new floor will help to give the library a new fresh look,” said Eckert. In addition to a better look – it will also be more functional for everyone. “Some of the services formally located at the Information desk will be moved to the main service desk. This includes our Readers Advisory services, help with our databases, and our notary service. Computer related services have moved back to our Business Center located closer to our genealogy collection,” said Eckert. He said the flooring that is going down is an epoxy flooring that is very durable and easy to maintain.

While this work is underway, programs and services are still available. For information on programs offered at the library, visit the library website at, call 870-935-5133 or stop by the library at 315 West Oak Avenue.
