Pocahontas Mayor Names New Police Chief

The Mayor of Pocahontas, Kevin Sutton today named its new police chief, David Edington takes over the position formerly held by Cecil Tackett. The former police chief caught most by surprise last week (January 9th) when Tackett unexpectedly announced his resignation. Tackett told Northeast Arkansas News that he thought the new mayor was going to fire him the next day, The 60-year-old Tackett had held chief's job since 2012.

Edington might be a familiar name to people of Randolph County. He mounted a campaign against Kevin Bell for the Randolph County Sheriff office. In the November 6th General Election. Edington place third behind Bell and Dane Dillion. Chris Winebaugh finished in fourth place, Mayor Sutton took over at the beginning of the new year after beating incumbent mayor, Karey Storey.

It's not clear when Edington will start his new job. Sutton today made the announcement via a media release. With it he told reporters he was giving no interviews. Here is a copy of Sutton's letter.
