A special memorial service took place in Jonesboro Monday afternoon for a K9 that was killed in a police shooting last week.
About a hundred officers gathered at the Emerson Memorial chapel to pay their respects to K9 officer Hemi.
Hemi was fatally shot after making contact with a suspect that had fled state troopers on July 30th. That suspect was identified as 35-year-old Edward Blackmon of St. Louis, and later fatally shot after opening fire on troopers.
Hemi served in the Arkansas State Police Department for five years and provided assistance to Jonesboro, Paragould, Blytheville and Poinsett County police, as well as the 2nd Judicial District Drug Task Force.
Hemi was born in June of 2012 in the Netherlands.
