Lawrence County Rail Trail Nears Completion

Bikers and walkers in Lawrence County will get to experience the full effect of the county’s Rail Trail before the year is over.

After nearly ten years of building and paving, the Rail Trail is almost complete.

It spans six miles and runs from Hoxie to the Walnut Ridge airport.

Lawrence county acquired rights to the Rail Trail after BNSF abandoned a rail spur a decade ago.

The trail is funded in part from the Arkansas Department of Transportation, and State Parks and Tourism Department.

Brett Cooper of the county’s Rail Trail committee says there’s only about thirteen hundred feet of paving left until the trail is fully complete.

The county expects to up the final part of the trail by the end of the year.

Officials want to remind you; no motorized vehicles are allowed on the Rail Trail.
