Update: ASU Summer Construction Projects
Construction workers are taking over Arkansas State University’s campus this summer.
There are multiple construction projects in the works.
Associate Vice Chancellor for Marketing and Communications Bill Smith says the projects are leading the university to a new look.
“People comment about the Arkansas State University campus, how new it looks and that’s because it is. In the past 5 years we’ve had around $170 million worth of projects”, said Smith.
ASU is now building a brand new welcome center.
Inside there will be a full service Centennial Bank branch for students, faculty, and staff.
On the other side of campus, workers are finishing up the first phase of their bike trail plan.
Smith says there are two projects standing out, “You’re seeing two huge public-private projects that are happening. The convention center with the Embassy Suites is coming out of the ground now and then the north end zone project which is being financed by donations to the Red Wolf Foundation both of those are going full speed right now”.
Each construction project will be improving the visual appearance of ASU. Projects like the convention center though will be having a bigger impact.
“Working through this one public-private partnership to provide new internships and employment opportunities for students”, said Smith.
The convention center is expected done in summer 2019.
While the north end zone, seating portion of the project will be done before next football season.
The bigger additions like a weight room, offices, and more will take another year of construction.
