“Back to back, back to back, not one but two!”, the Jonesboro High School Boys Basketball team cheered.
Spirits are still high after both Jonesboro boys and girls basketball teams clenched state championship titles last Saturday, March 10th.
It was the girls second title ever in school history and the second title in a row for the boys.
Senior, Desi Sills is still thrilled to see the back-to-back championship goal was reached.
“It’s like the best feeling of my life. Ended my senior year like I wanted to end it. So, we got another ring and I’m loving it right now. It’s the best feelin’ in my life right now”, said Sills.
The state champs are owing it all to team work.
“My teammates I couldn’t have done it without them and I’m so proud of us and what we accomplished”, said Kayla Mitchell, the girls M.V.P.
Jonesboro High School celebrated with a huge rally to honor the teams on Tuesday morning, March 13th.
During the ceremony both teams cut the nets from the court they spent hours practicing on.
Giving each player and their trophy a memento of the season.
All of Jonesboro High School is still celebrating the two State 6A Championship titles from both boys and girls basketball. Coaches though are thinking of the next season.”
“If what you did yesterday still seems big to you today, then you haven’t done much today. So that’s kind of the process. You know this was this year’s team and next year’s team has gotta earn their own. So, we gotta just start the process again and keep workin”, said Jodi Christenberry, the girls basketball head coach.
Until practices begin after spring break, coaches are just soaking in their players happiness, “That’s what you hope to see at the end of the year you know from a coaching standpoint and getting to see those guys celebrate with each other and the true smiles on their faces and the joy. All that’s a pretty good feeling, said Wes Swift, the boys head basketball coach.
