Jonesboro E-911's brings quicker response times with new technology
“911 what’s your emergency?”
Mellenee Bennett has been answering calls for Jonesboro’s E-911 dispatch center for 17 years.
“It’s nice knowing that we can get the help that they need quickly. When someone calls, and they have an emergency they want help now”, said Bennett.
Jonesboro E-911 has been working to upgrade their technology.
Their newest addition is an enhanced digital mapping system.
Unlike their old system it allows them to see aerial photos of buildings, streets, and real time locations of police officers, fire trucks, and ambulances.
The new system will allow E-911 dispatchers to track the call within a 7-foot radius. Allowing dispatchers to find the precise location and think of the quickest route to get to that spot.
“You know when we have to dispatch on let’s say a major fire. This is actually going to give us information of what routes, what the best route for that truck that they can go. It’s also gonna have an overlay of the fire hydrants it’s gonna have the flow of that water hydrant. So, the response for that is time, we’re gonna pick up on some time”, said Jeff Presley, E-911 Director for Craighead County.
The system has only been in use for a week.
Once the dispatchers get used to it, it’s expected to shorten the time to get to the scene.
“We’re gonna be able to get better response times as far as getting the help that the people need. It’s gonna be a big advancement for us. Once we get all the problems worked out of it. Getting everything on. It’s gonna be advanced technology for all the dispatchers”, said Bennett.
The system is going to be added to Jonesboro police cars and fire trucks this week.
