Veterans who have been injured in combat now have a new special parking spot on the campus of Arkansas State University.
According to veterans the sign means so much more than just a parking spot.
Derek Barks and Adam Carmichael suffered brain and shrapnel injuries while serving their country. Both are happy to see the designation established on the campus of Arkansas State.
The campus of Arkansas State was proclaimed as a Purple Heart university in October of 2016. But not until today did veterans get their first official purple heart parking spot.
Chancellor Kelly Damphousse made the announcement on his First Friday webcast this past Friday.
By afternoon Monday the sign was up in front of the administration building.
Arkansas State was the first Purple Heart university in the state. It is the home of the Beck Pride Center…it provides services to veterans whether they are students or not.
These men have a post-traumatic stress disorder support group.
Director Lynda Nash of the facility says the sign is more than just a sign. Nash says ASU has about 500 veterans enrolled this past
