WESTSIDE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT TAKES SECOND PLACE IN DISTRICT ART CONTEST

Mallorie Clark, a 7th grade student at the Westside Middle School (Jonesboro), has taken 2nd place in the 2017-2018 District 7-0 Lions International Peace Poster contest.  (The district comprises an area representing around ¼ of Arkansas.)   Mallorie had initially won the local contest at her school, before her poster was forwarded to the next level in the annual international art competition sponsored by the Jonesboro University Heights Lions Club.  The poster entries at the WMS, all prepared by students of Art Instructor Kristi Bowen, were among the over 600,000 entries submitted worldwide in the 30th annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest for artists between the ages of 11 and 13 – this year’s theme was "The Future of Peace.”  Lions Clubs International conducts the contest to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere, and to introduce them to the work of Lions.  Jonesboro University Heights Lions Club President Tom Woods congratulated Mallorie, and indicated that his club was sponsoring the annual contest in Jonesboro for the 17th year in a row in an effort to help promote the global Lions' mission of promoting peace and also to encourage young local artists.

Posters of local contest winners for the past ten years can be viewed at the JUH Lions website http://www.universityheightslionsclub.com/youth.htm.
