A shortage of part time drivers for the Jonesboro Express Transit could delay Saturday service to Jonesboro. The driver shortage is being caused by some of the full-time drivers moving on to other opportunities.
Those in part time positions will likely get first preference for the full-time jobs.
Transportation director Michael Black was hoping to launch new Saturday services in January 2018 but says that is looking doubtful.
He says he is looking to hire at least six drivers at 12-dollars an hour to start with no benefits.
Black says, "we stopped on running on Saturdays in January of 2010.
We now looking at bringing our Saturday’s back.
There are people out there who do need to get to work, people who need to go to the grocery store and stuff on Saturday. He says the city will help applicants get their CDL’s.
Drivers could take 8 to ten weeks to get fully trained.
