Local Retailers Promote Shopping Small

Shop Small! It is a message family-owned retailers in Northeast Arkansas are sending out to customers as they make their holiday purchases. Gracefully Southern and Swanky Storks Children Boutique are two boutiques in Downtown Paragould that are relying on local folks for business support.

Traci Craft owns Swanky Storks Childrens Boutique off South Pruett Street in Downtown Paragould, and has been at the location for a year and a half. "I never noticed the importance of shopping small until I became a business owner," Craft says.

Craft, and Tiffany Stewart of Gracefully Southern are optimistic that sales and unique product offerings will grab new customers for the holiday season.

Gracefully Southern hosts a 'Come All Ye' Faithful sale with 20% - 40% off select products.

Swanky Storks Children's Boutique offers a 10% discount off specialty baby clothes and shoe collections.

Some shoppers, like Philip Craft, encourage the shop small habit. "Without local merchants we wouldn't have a town," he says.

Small Business Saturday is part of a national movement from American Express to get people to think and buy local for product needs. Each Small Business Saturday merchant gives away shopping bags, pens and other materials for each local purchase.

This aims to make small businesses more competitive for this weekend's huge holiday shopping sales that included Black Friday, and will also include Cyber Monday.
