New Blood Pressure Guidelines

For the first time since 2003 the American Heart Association and other organizations have changed the guidelines for what is considered high blood pressure.

They made the announcement Monday that people will be diagnosed for hypertension if they have a top reading of 130 or more or a bottom reading of 80 or more. As opposed to the old definition of 140 over 90.

The organizations are hoping the new categories will help people become more aware of the risks that can come with high blood pressure such as heart attacks and strokes.

Northeast Arkansas Reporter Alexis Padilla has more on what you can do to protect your heart.
