The Jonesboro Police Department announces the retirement of three Police officers. Captain B.J. Smith, Cpl. Wayne McClard and Cpl. John Shipmen will retire effective January 31,, 2019. The three officers have 83 cumulative years, serving and protecting the citizens of Jonesboro.
Captain Smith began his law enforcement career with the United States Air Force in 1974. After serving a four-year commitment, he moved back to Paragould and obtained employment with the Greene County Sherriff’s department as a deputy.
In March 1983, Captain Smith was hired as a patrolman by the Jonesboro Police department. He worked in the Criminal Investigation Division for 13 years before making the rank of Captain. He currently serves the department as Administrative Captain.
Cpl. Wayne McClard has been with the department since 1991. He has served as a patrolman, Warrants officer and DARE.
Cpl. John Shipman, a Marine Corp Veteran, began his law enforcement career as a deputy for Madison County. He became a member of the Jonesboro Police in 2000, where he served as a patrolman, Canine Handler, PROWL officer and School Resource officer.
